Hardik Pandya to be replaced by RCB all-rounder for South Africa T20I series

The Indian squad will see two major changes during the three-match T20I series against South Africa. Hardik Pandya, who is travelling to National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru, has been replaced by Shahbaz Ahmed, according to Source. The team has also replaced Deepak Hooda with Shreyas Iyer who sustained back injury.

Mohammed Shami, India’s leading fast bowler, is unlikely to feature in the series against the Proteas. As of yet, Shami has not tested negative for Covid-19. After T20 World Cup 2021, Shami returned to the T20I team. As a result of contracting the virus, his return has been delayed.

In addition to Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will join the NCA. Arshdeep Singh visited the NCA earlier during the recently concluded T20I series against Australia.

Shahbaz debuted for the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020. During 29 matches, he has taken 13 wickets and averaged 36.31 runs per over with an economy rate of 8.58. 3/7 is his best bowling figure. The batsman scored 279 runs with an average of 18.60 and strike rate of 118.72 in IPL. Among his IPL scores, 45 is the highest.

Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield International Stadium will host the first T20I against Temba Bavuma’s Proteas team on September 28.
