In India’s eight-wicket victory over South Africa, Arshdeep Singh (3/32) and Deepak Chahar (2/24) had excellent opening spells. In the third over, India slipped to 9/5 thanks to the new-ball bowlers, but Keshav Maharaj’s spirited comeback helped them to 106/8. The contrasting half-centuries by Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul in the 17th over brought an end to the chase in spite of losing two cheaply.
Almost everything was decided in the first 15 balls. Despite India’s pacers sitting out/resting, Arshdeep and Chahar displayed match-defining swing bowling upfront with the new ball, putting any concerns to rest.
South Africa’s top-order lacked foot movement, which led to the majority of their wickets falling. Putting Temba Bavuma in a state of confusion with an outswinger, Chahar brought one back in sharply. In his opening over, Arshdeep struck three times – Quinton de Kock chopped one onto his stumps, Rilee Rossouw edged back, and David Miller was undone by an inswinger. Third golden duck in a row for Tristan Stubbs after Chahar picked his second.
